Happy Birthday Ian Hunter

Ian Hunter was 74 on Friday, same age as my Dad, bloody hell! This is from a live gig back in the day, the picture quality might not be great and the sound does fade in and out by its better than anything else I could find, the upgraded version isn't available for sharing.

Hunter's trademark glasses aren't a fashion accessory by the way, he has weak eyes that means without the shades he would be permanently squinting and risking more serious eye damage. Mott were, and still are, in my opinion one of the great English bands of that era, possibly overshadowed by their association with Bowie and seen by some as a poor mans T.Rex. They did owe a lot to Bowie but the band were more rock than T.Rex and produced some very good music. This track was used by Martin Scorsese as the opening tune for his film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and you can't get a much better accolade than that.

Really good sound...overshadowed but also "saved" by Bowie.

Yes, the Bowie-Mott-Mick Ronson connection spawned a lot of good music.

When I was 19, they were my favourites and I think Ian Hunter isn't far behing the likes of Ray Davies with his songwriting. Four years ago he released a single called "I think I liked it better when the world was round". It's just as good as anything he wrote 40 years ago.

I agree Shy, he still writes (like Ray Davies) some quality songs, pity the mass media generally ignore them both.

Blimey...I had no idea he was 74...Sadly I only know a few songs of his(the one's that always are played on the radio)

But as I say on my blog the same was also true regarding Andrew Gold who has just passed away.

So many of our Rock Stars that have managed to survive refuse to give up and are determined to go down fighting.
